| 2. Here's some free music. We really shouldn't be giving it all away cuz we have an album to sell, but everyone likes free music, so there you go. Plus which, the album has sixteen tracks on it and only three of the songs here are from the record so we feel pretty comfortable that if you like this music you're gonna want to get your hands on the record. We think that the stuff on the record is the best we've ever done and we pride our selves on the idea that none of the music on the record is filler. Also, if you like the really hard rocking stuff, there isn't that much of it here. Other than the album cuts most of this is pop. Do you think we should do a cover album? Would anyone out there buy it? Well anyways, the first five song are all from the sessions that produced our record. The rest of them are older tracks featuring Katie on bass guitar instead of mikey-man, and without any Stick. Some may show up in the future on a record in fresh shiny new recordings, but for now, enjoy. Everything here was recorded by Bart Thurber at House of Faith in Oakland, CA. Whom we reccomend highly if you want a solid recording and haven't got a whole lot of cash. Remember that MP3 compression removes guitars and boosts ugly high frequency blech. The descriptions are there in case you have dial up like me, so you can get the type of song you want. Thanks for listening. Strelnikov.mp3 (The album version. What can i say? It's a song about Pasha Andropov and how war makes people into disgusting assholes. The idea that war brings out the best in people is fucking absurd and propagated by war mongers. Baroque Metal?) Six Minutes in the Sun.mp3 (Album Version. A song about dying, kinda. White punk reggae, with screaming.) Goner.mp3 (Album Version. My favorite song to play live. A song about wanting something you can't have. Sorta.) Mania in Lithuania.mp3 (Album B-Side. We didn't put in on the record because we think we can do it better someday. A fun little noisy tune about slavery, mostly.) Low Rider Cloud Nine.mp3 (Another B-Side. This one might end up on vinyl. We really like this song but it just didn't fit with the record. It's long and develops slowly but is ultimately very satisfying. Doesn't really fit a genre.) Apocalypse Not Right Now.mp3 (A nice pretty song about my dog and the end of the world. Or something.) Fortunately Gone.mp3 (Breeders cover. Micah and Val and Bass and Guitar.) Stolen.mp3 (Stolen riffs. People like this one a lot for some reason. We say motherfucker in it. Johnny and me think it reduces our respectability as a band, so it's not going on the album, but here it is for free. I notice that a lot of pretentious types think that incesticide is nirvana's best album. I like it because they fail on it, which makes me love them more, but In Utero is the best nirvana album. Duh.) Sylvia.mp3 (Noisy Pop about, well, how many other Sylvias could there be?) Helpless.mp3 (Big sensitive. Pretty guitars.) Complicated.mp3 (A loverly song about a girl that can't stop lying. I never thought the vocal take was free enough. It sounds forced and painful, so here it is for free.) You Send Me.mp3 (Sam Cooke Cover. Val just messing around. She wouldn't want me to put this online cuz she messes up in it, but it's cute, she says fuck. Anyways, get this one now if you want it, cuz it might not be here too long.) Once again, the Art's by Anya. |

| 1. This column used to be a huge rant about all sorts of stuff that made me mad, but hardly anyone read the whole thing and i think being mad about stuff alienates people, so let me just say i think war is stupid, punk rock means never having to say you're sorry, and Pidgeon loves you no matter what you believe as long as you believe we rock. And you should see the Ghandi movie, even though gandi is played by a white guy. I met a lutheran woman who wasn't sure if slavery was wrong or not because the bible doesn't specifically say it's wrong. She said that the bible says, "if you're a slave that you should be the best slave you can be". I imagine one can fairly easily extrapolate the wrongness of slavery from the bit where moses leads the jews out of egypt, but i haven't read the whole thing so who knows. That "let my people go" song rocks. My grandma was a lutheran minister, the first female minister in her synod. My grandma is a great woman and i love her very much. She knows that believing something doesn't mean forcing others to believe the same things. The different things that people believe are almost as interesting as the reasons they believe them. I don't believe that there's one god who speaks english and gives a crap about us and has a blond blue eyed white boy as a son, but i think you should believe it if you want to. I do think there's an order to the universe and that god is really just a metaphore for all the beautiful, wonderful things in the world that we know for sure exist, even though we don't know how they exist. I also think that, like belinda carlisle said, "ooh, heaven is a place on earth." I love noodles. Noodles are god. I also don't think that jesus had magic powers, but i do think he was a real person and a pretty nice fucking guy. A lot of the things he said were really beautiful, and when you think about it, he fed people, he lived humbly, and he preached love and kindness. Kinda like Ghandi or Doctor King or something. I suppose that's a good reason to idolize someone, but it doesn't seem like something he would have wanted. And i'm sure he wouldn't want anyone killed in his name. I also think it's kinda funny that everybody's historical icon comes from basically the same place. Oh, and Mary Magdalene wasn't a hooker at all, she was an apsotle. She used to have her own book in the bible, "the gospel according to mary" but they wrote her out in the middle ages, because they didn't think god would talk to a girl. From apostle to whore. Fucking lame, man. Ok, sorry, I won't talk about religion any more, promise. Hey, if you like loud, thrashy, kick-your-ass music, check out this japanese band Bleach. They're three girls from okinawa and i promise you won't be dissapointed. I think i saw one of their records at Ameoba SF or you can find them on the internet. There's a site called yesasia.com or something like that where you can find all sorts of cool music from asia for pretty good prices. Most of our thanks are in the album liner notes now, but i need to add profound thanks to Aaron Axelson at Live105 for all the opportunities he's given us to share our music with people. Also i need to thank Gabriella from Sinombre and KUSF for all of her kindness. Also thanks to any other KUSF DJ that's been playing our tracks and to all of you for spreading the love around and encouraging us to continue pursuing our impossible dreams. That's all i really have to say now. More next update. love, micah |
